What a point of sale should actually do

A modern POS should support service first. It needs to be quick at the table, resilient during busy periods and connected to the information managers use after service.

Point of sale interface used in a modern venue

Keep ordering fast

Menus, modifiers and table positions should be easy to navigate with minimal taps. Staff should be able to move a table, split a bill and correct an order without finding a manager for routine changes.

Treat payments as part of service

Clear payment status, refunds and receipts matter as much as taking a card. The venue needs a reliable trail from order to settlement.

Make the data usable

Sales information becomes valuable when it connects to products, service periods and guest activity. Reports should answer operational questions rather than simply reproduce till totals.
